Breastfeeding Project

First of all I want to say THANK YOU!  The response to this project has been so incredibly positive and incredible!  I’m so happy to see so many amazing women ready to participate.  I’ve already met a few of you and can’t wait to meet everyone else.

A lot of people are asking me why I want to do this project, there are several reasons.  I nursed both of my kids and the stigma that still remains  is something I don’t agree with, I also find that society has a very skewed view of breastfeeding, what it looks like, what it is, and why it’s important.  I am passionate about women succeeding in their decision to breastfeed and my hope is that this project will push the boundaries of public perception.

We are fortunate in Canada that nursing is fairly widely accepted, but even here we encounter situations where people seem to have a problem with a child being fed.

Through the use of my art and photography I want to showcase nursing mothers and babies. I want to share the beauty and intimacy of nursing a child, and help disolve misconceptions about what it means to breastfeed and what it means to have been breastfed.

I hope to achieve this in several ways and in several places. I’m hoping to capture moms nursing in private, in public, and in those quaint, quiet corners a nursing mother can so skillfully seek out.

All images included in this project will be shared publicly and on the internet. The final displays will depend on how many women and babies participate

My goal is to depict the diversity of nursing mothers, mothers of all ages, nursing children of all ages, as well as mothers who have nursed their children but no longer are.  Participation is on a strictly voluntary basis, and you will be asked to sign a model release.  All sessions will take place in either Toronto or North Bay.  Each session should last approximately 30 minutes.  Your husband/partner or other children are welcome to participate and we will incorporate them as best as possible.

I’m currently looking for mothers who are, will be or have breastfed who fall into the following categories :

– mothers of all ages who are currently nursing or pregnant and plan to nurse

– mothers who are tandem nursing (nursing more than one child)

– mothers of all ages who nursed in the past – no matter your age or how long ago you nursed be it 6 months or 25 years, hopefully the child(ren) who you breastfed will also be willing to participate

If you are interested but don’t fall into one of these categories please don’t hesitate to contact me, I am open to ideas and I will be looking for more participants outside of these groups in the near future!  I will provide you with more personalized information depending on which type of nursing mother you are.  Please email info@kaylaboyle.ca

I can’t wait to share this with all of you!
